Battery terminals

Looked at an old 2+2 that has been
sitting a long time. Engine is
free does anyone know the
likelihood that it got water down
in the engine? And it got batterys
that got top post threaded studs
and use an eye on the cable. Never
seen that before was that common?

(quoted from post at 17:48:25 10/01/22) Probably more like 40 years.

Prolly about right.

I converted some trucks to grp 31 stud batteries back then.

The engines cranked over better and a lot less terminal maintenance.

Last year when the battery died on my 560 diesel it got a stud type 31 with new lug end cables, starts way better now.

My old (1979) Kenworth 10 wheeler had threaded stud batteries. Much less problems than regular post and clamp terminals on my other stuff.

Batteries are a common set up. For the water if the engine has not been spun with a battery yet. Loosen the oil drain plugs on all the reservoirs ,all oils and see what comes out. This is for engine and trans. If no water start it up. Will probably start right off. I hear the big problem is parts for the drive box to the front axle.

was the exhaust pipe covered? that will tell the story. plus check the oil level is another tell tale sign. plus crack the oil drain plug is another thing to do on any new purchases.
