Battery Voltage on 966?

Whats the Voltage on the set of batteries on a 966? The batteries are dead and I stuck the charger on them and it acted funny so I unhooked it. Is it 6V or 6vX2=12v or 12V or 12x12=24V?

2x6v=12v. But I found it was better to disconnect them and charge each battery seperately at 6v and 10 amps.

You need to see how many cells each battery has.
You probably have 2 six volt batteries hookup in series to give you 12 volts to the starter. You should be able to charge both batteries by connecting your positive battery cable on the plus + terminal that goes to your starter. Then connect the negative cable on your battery charger to battery terminal that's grounded on the other battery. Hal
PS A pic would help.

grd- + - += 12 volts

The batteries will freeze and be ruined if they are flat and it is cold enough. They may be ruined if left flat long enough anyway.

Kelly, Good to see you back, on the boards. A 966 is a great tractor for I have one also. The Batts are connected in series like this ,,,,,
2,,, 6 volt batts, in this fashion .......,
Starter,to->HL Batt--> + --> - to RH Batt--> + --> - ..to Ground (frame). Pretty much like El Toro said.
The DT414 doesn't like to idle around they will go to slobbering oil out the exhaust., if it that happens just hook it to a heavy plow and run her hard for a couple of hrs it will stop. Being you do not have a loader on it that may not be a big problem.
Hope this helps, Take Care, Hope this helps
Later,
John A.
