So the riding lawnmower battery was on a solar maintainer all winter long went to start it a week ago and its at 6 V charged it all night comes up to 10 1/2 volts. Any tricks on getting this thing back to 12 1/2 volts I havent done much research but Ive heard something about hydrogen peroxide being added to the battery? Any suggestions I dont wanna spend $50 for a new battery

wish i knew the answer. i hate those little batteries with a passion. my riding mower is converted. it has a car battery :)

my 420 honda quad i bought new in 2008 and replaced the original battery last year. hell of a run.

You are absolutely correct. Why can I get 6-7 years out of an automotive battery but two-three on even the best Interstate mower battery.

Now help me out with cordless tool batteries. Seems every three years I'm buying a new pair of DeWalt 18 volt batteries. After 5 years have
gone by, I've spent more on batteries than the tool, charger and batteries cost new!
Planned obsolescence?
I will use my corded tool or pneumatic tool before I reach for the cordless option.

I get 5-7 years out of RK maintenance free mower batteries.
Buy the biggest CCA mower battery.
Keep them charged over the winter.

I buy an 18v to 20v adapter and use a 20v dewalt Lithium battery. They last longer and have about 2-3x the amp rating..

I use 20v Li dewalt batteries on all my cordless tools..

If some of you guys would learn to disconnect the battery between uses or install a battery disconnect and use it EVERY time, or, better yet, install a disconnect AND a battery maintainer you'd have an entirely different opini0on as to how many years a battery can last!

I have a Traveller Lawn & Garden battery for my Husqvarna mower. It's340 CCA. Bought and installed July 2021. Have had zero issues so far. I not only forgot to remove the battery before Winter, but I also did not charge it until Spring thaw. Still starts like a champ. Bought it on sale at Tractor Supply. Regular price was $51.99, but I got it on sale for $38.99.

I put hydrogen peroxide in all my acid batteries starting when new if they aren't permanently sealed. The only ones I can't get to last 10+ years are the small lawn and garden and motor cycle size batteries. You don't say how old your's is or what size, but peroxide can't hurt.

It is beyond dead
And is barely scrap .
The higher the CCA ,
Usually the longer they last .
Any lead acid battery is damaged by being run flat .

I'd really like to offer immediate help, but sadly operator error & batteries sometimes produce needful corrective measures. If your electric grid is Stable, invest in a Battery Tender for your new battery and be happy for the next seven years.
A Phd. with a doctorate in Battery Chemistry opined to me that "Batteries never die of old age, they are murdered".

Have a Cub Cadet I bought in 2013. Battery in it now that I think went bad yesterday was punched out in 2015. So the first one lasted 2 years and this one 8 years. I used to remove the battery and store it in my basement over the winter up until around 2018 when I started using a battery maintainer like I do on my farm tractors.
