I have a 1949 8n, front mount, 6volt, the battery was bought this year but it will not hold a charge. I have tried to "polarize" it. Any ideas?

You're going to be spending a lot of time trying to polarize a battery.

It's not the battery or the voltage regulator that needs polarization; it's the generator. (see tip # 23)

How do you know it won't hold a charge? Is your charging system working or do you put it on a charger & it goes dead over night?

See tip # 49 for a quick check on the battery. The hydrometer will tell you if it's bad....not if it's good.

Sometimes you can find a parts store equipped to load check a 6v battery but most aren't these days.

If the battery is fully charged out of the tractor & won't turn the starter over, it's not the battery that's the problem.
