I bought a Case backhoe about 5 years ago. Yesterday, I got ready to use it and the battery was very low. I charged it and it showed full charge. I removed the battery terminals and really cleaned the post and clamps. Same cranking results, so I boosted the machine off and it cranked instantly.
Knowing the battery was toast, I removed it and to my disbelief the battery was stamped May of 2001!!
It is an Eveready and I have never seen an Eveready Car/Truck/Tractor battery, nor have I ever heard of a battery lasting this long.
It is 800 Cold Cranking Amps which I think is overkill for this machine.
I have not bought a battery but have replaced with an automobile battery that is 575 CCA.
The machine cranks instantly but winter cranking would be questionable.
Do they still make Eveready car batteries?

They sure do. Not sure where to get them though.
They are an american company with several factories
but are also made overseas too. I believe Energizer
owns them now. On a different note I routinely
replace Interstate batteries that are 10+ years old.
I believe a battery should last that long. I stay
away from anything Excide makes personally as I
haven't had one make 4 years yet...

I'm not sure if they make eveready batteries still. To get 12 years out of a battery is good. You sure it wasn't stamped 2011?

I hate it now and how they have been rating batteries for CCA (cold cranking amps) and people are falling for it.

I can always get a vehicle started in cold weather but I want a battery that is rated for the highest amount of amp hours which means how long will it last at a given amperage draw in the event the charging system fails.

Lately I never miss an opportunity to brag about the batteries in my CIH 7130 magnum. Not sure on the name (magna charge?) but bought from the CIH dealer and installed them May 15, 1998. Best I've ever had. Still fires the tractor right up. It never sees winter use so I don't if they would handle a real cold start. I'm thinking 15 years is about the best I have seen on a set of batteries.

I buy Staab. I put group 31s in my 580K. I was in Sams and saw Duracell batteries. Just pick up a battery and you can tell how much lead is in them. The little battery that goes in my 400 Suzuki that comes from China is junk. Won't last a year but I forget to put the trickle charger on it, since it has an electric ignition.

OEM battery in my Pick up went a little over 9
years, later found out it probably wasn't bad the
problem was the alternator. Had to replace the
battery in our Honda last month. We've had the car
for 22 1/2 years and been through 8 batteries. It
was sitting in the garage not being used, figured
I pull it to Iowa with me and use it instead of
the truck, battery was dead and wouldn't charge.
pulled the battery out and noticed the sticker
that said 7/06, heck that lasted longer than the
OEM battery. Oh it was from Walmart and was made
by Johnson Controls

I installed a 6 volt battery in my Allis B in 1998. I have it connected to a Battery Butler everyday and it still cranks the tractor over everytime. Pretty darn good for a NAPA battery.
I know exactly how old the battery is because I worked on the tractor in January and february of 98 for my Dad so it would be easier for him to start and use. I purchased the battery one week before he passed. He did get to see how easy it was to start but never got to use it.
