SOmeone really just wanted a roof, but the builder told them they had to have at least a little bit of building to keep it off the ground.

WOnder what the purpose of that thing is? Masonry and everything else looks too elaborate to be a barn.

It does look rather elaborate for a barn, but the old State Fairgrounds in Richmond Virginia had a similar looking barn, and it may be a barn at a research university. It
also looks a little like an old railroad roundhouse.

That looks like solid brick walls.
That makes it old.
So old I would say that is not the orginal roof.

When that barn was built I bet it did not have the power box on it. Here in Vermont they were built . We still have a Round Church in Richmond, Vt.

Relatively new roof. Power service, you have to put it someplace. No windows or were they bricked in at some point? It must be structural brick, that is brick is the
structure and bearing the load of the roof. Not sure what the freeze thaw cycles might be but the tree life that close will trap moisture and over time cause spalling.
