Bears - Wolves - Alligators

You live in a beautiful state, but; When I went through nighttime escape and evasion training at Ft. Polk, it scared the heck out of me, running, and crawling around in the swamps, and woods. My BIL is a native, and had enlightened me about your wildlife.
Went thru Tiger Land myself......most of it with poison ivy. :p

When my two buddies and I showed up at the target escape building, about midnight, our DI wanted to know why we didn't surrender, when crossing a road, and hollered at to stop. We told him that it was Escape and Evasion, Not Stop and Surrender. He jusr shook his head, and laughed

While watching a TV program I saw some folks being chased by a brown bear and they hid under a pickup (yes, I know it is all fake). I live in northern Indiana on 10 acres of woods in a farming community. I got to thinking there is not many rural areas where a person could go for a walk in the woods or safely let a 2 yr old wander around the yard without the danger of 4 legged predators. Northern areas have bears. Southern areas have bears and alligators. Out west is mountain lions among other critters. In this area there are coyotes but I have never heard of them dragging a kid away. Is your area 4 legged predator free like where I live? Notice I said 4 legged, not 2 legged. Every area has their druggies and child molestors.
Walk with someone much older you can out run. Stan

Years back on a s4ervicce call in a county south of me i was working on a tractor in a remote field out in the BOONIES , it was getting real close to O dark thirty and light was fading , i had my truck sorta backed up to the tractor usen my tail gate as a work bench . I turned to pick up my ratchet and i just happened to see Mr Bear a med size black bear come out of the bushes about 40 fifty yards from me . Yea that got me excited , no i did not have my two friends with me or even the one friend . Bears in Eastern OHIO ???? , yea it does happen . It happened to my wifes friend one evening before i was equipment repair . Back then we were trucking mostly local running a coal bucket and home most nights nnalert with most of our friend back then were trucking some doing iron hauling a couple running step decks and some coal . Kris 's husband ran step deck and god only knew where he was at . Kriss waz on the phone with my wife when i walked in asking if i was home as she thought she had a prowler . Kriss like a lot of her generation did NOT believe in HOME protection and LIVE out in the county where your NO just MIN. away from law enforcement but more like atleast and hour away . So we get my two friends and we Fly the six miles out to her place in my pick up and i light the place up like a foot ball stadium with my aux lighting i had on the truck and i see here four Husky's cowering in the dog boxes and then i see Mr- Mrs Black bear roaming the berry bushes as i came over the top of the slight rise in there back yard . The bear took off at a high rate of speed and gone . The night i had the close encounter we worked a little faster got it done gathered up the tools and tossed them into the tool boxes with out whippoing them down and putting them in place closed the doors and into the truck and i was OUT OF THERE. A couple years back maybe 10 years back when we still had the Malamute he and i were on the late night walk on a cold snowy night around 11:30 and i saw fresh deer tracks in the snow where four deer had come across the street here in town and four more tracks bigger then my hand and a shell we say NOTCH in the snow between the tracks following the deer , the tracks of a large CAT . The next morning the local Face Book page was lite up with several early morning sightings of said Kitty two streets west of me and the sighting kept happening . One of my OLD customers called with and issue on his 966 and i went out to address it , back then John was still milking cows i fixed his problem and we were talking and john tells me things he does not share much with others and he was telling me about what happened two nights ago when he took the trash from the milk house out back and burned it as he does every night . He told me while he was watching the fire The KITTY came out of the woods on the far side of the fire and just sat down staring at him and the fire maybe fifty feet away , just sat there for 10-15 min then got up and walked east out across the pasture . Now John is not a avid hunter and does not have a arsenal but he does have two 22's and a 16 ga. Pump but no shells and asked me to find him some as NOBODY around here has 16 Ga. . I found him two boxes of #4 shot that weekend best i could come up with and took all they had . But since then nobody has seen it .
