Been fixing up my TO30

First I'd like to say thanks to the advise Iv'e got from people on this forum, been very helpful.
I finally got the rebuilt generator on and the now 12 volt system is working fine, also got the new radiator on, it's running pretty good for being so old. So now the last thing I did was change the oil and filter. Here is my question, when I changed the oil filter, it had a lot of sludge in the canister, so I cleaned out the canister real good before I put the new filter. After the oil change the oil pressure was normal and it seems to be running fine. But should I maybe pull the oil pan on the next oil change to check and clean out any sludge that might be at the bottom of the pan??

Why not? For the cost of a gasket you will know your new oil is not mixing with decades of engine gunk. I would also pull off the oil pump pickup. Just
a cotter pin, and clean that out too.

If you do drop the pan, might want to take a look at the oil pump.

That is a weak link on those engines. The gear is driven by a set screw, known to come loose or split the gear.

Look for pieces of metal in the pan. The governor ball cage can break, shed pieces of metal. No way to know if it's a present condition or has already been replaced though.
