Behlen overdrive

I just purchased a 40 A with 4 speed transmission and behlen overdrive. Does the overdrive give you two additional speeds or just one? What I have read about B's it says it gives you 5th and 6th. Just wondered if A's were the same.

Thanks

In a way. I think you put your main transmission in neutral, and then you get 2 more speeds controlled by the shifter on the Behlen-- fast and faster(I think in the range of 20+). Make sure your steering is tight enough to be able to control at those speeds.

main transmission in neutral, overdrive engaged, shift the high/low shifter of main transmission, low for fast, high for even faster, be ready to hang on!

OK. So there is one position for the overdrive handle and the high/lo lever on the regular transmission controls whether you are in 5 or 6 gear?

Yes, but you will need to keep in mind where your shifters are, the center (main stick) will be in nutruel, shift the over dive stick into gear then shift the Hi/Low stick to get a 5th and 6th gear, I had one years ago, it would go about 22MPH, too fast for it's own good for sure..

Thanks guys that answered my question.

I got it running today and low range is fairly comfortable and I tried high range and I didn't dare go above half throttle with the big gash in the sidewall of the rear tire. The gear noise is louder than the motor when in high range though.
