could someone(s) explain how I could easily test an amp gauge on the 12 volt F-340?

Watch the gauge when you turn on the headlights. Engine off. The
needle should drop maybe 4 or 5 amps. When you first start the tractor
the gauge should go up to five maybe even ten amps for a minute or
two. After the battery gets some charge back the needle should drop to
almost zero. Two or three amps is normal.
