Best p.up buys

Thinking about a new truck before the first of the year. What do you guys-gals think would be the best buy? Thinking 1500 4x4 ex.cab or crew.

If you can live with a bed less than 6 feet long, go with the full, 4 door crew cab.

I ran into a friend at the fuel pump recently. He had a new Nissan with Cummins. Before that he had F-350 with 6.0 and 250K on it. He wanted new Ford 350 but they would not move from $75K for it.

It was two years ago now, so things have probably changed, but Chevy sold me a truck stickered at $4000 more than the Ford for $6000 less than the Ford. A total of $10,000 difference in retail value.

Of course I know that's not the actual dollar value difference, but the Ford dealer would not budge an inch on their prices, while the Chevy dealer worked the heck out of the numbers to make me feel good.

My brother bought a new truck first part of September i gave him a ride to go pick it up.
He got a pretty good deal i wasn,t really looking for a new truck but they sent me a e-mail last weekend
about 4 grand less than he paid about 60 days ago ( hes not to happy ) so i picked it up Saturday

Asking what truck to buy is as bad as asking what type woman to marry. It's not real likely that someone elses idea of what's best will be what's best for you. That said, I can't wait til I can afford an aluminum Ford so rust is no longer an issue. Semi trucks have had aluminum cabs for decades and I can't believe it's taken this long for the auto industry to follow.

Only in Super Duty. The "longest" F150 you can buy is an extended cab long bed (8') or the crew cab with the 6.5 bed. Most crew cabs have the 5.5 bed when buying off the lot.

Chevy was having sales issues then and was trying to burn off inventory. Ford was selling all they could produce. Today they both have a normal "back stock" and have some room to work. The 2016 Chevys have had $10,0000 off sticker price for their end of year sale. I haven't heard of Ford matching that - yet.

I think you can special order it that way, but you will not find one on a dealers lot.

Dodge hd's come with 4doors and 8 foot bed. Not sure about their 1500, but I know those go to at least 6.5 foot with 4 door.

Got an F150 crew cab 5'6" bed and a 2500HD Silverado extended with 8' bed. The Ford isn't as tight in the front seat as the Chevy. If you belong to the Farm Bureau Ford will kick you $500.00 back. That's how it was when we bought ours.

I have had a chev 1500 special ordered from the factory with heavy suspension and brakes, long box extended cab 1994, Wouldn't be without 8 ft box, but that's only my preference.

Depends on the dealer I suppose. I had the exact opposite experience this year.

Chevy/GMC wouldn't come down much on a 2500 and kept trying to sell a lot fancier truck than I needed or wanted.

The Ford dealer worked his rear off finding discounts and knocked the price on an F250 down below what I was expecting so I bought the F250 and I couldn't be happier.

I notice there are a lot more Ford trucks on the road here than Chevy's. The dealer probably has a lot to do with that.

Not sure on best buy... but for many years we had an extended cab pickup - we like the full crew cab much better.

In fact, we love our full crew cab. Makes it a lot nicer when we have kids or grandkids riding along with us.

cuby, if you don't have 'new truck fever' check this place out if you're looking for a good deal. All of their inventory is low miles (under 20k and many under 10k), clean, like new. I thought I wanted a new vehicle until I went there. They're in PA. It may be a road trip for you but they have a map on the wall of customers from all over the US. Blue Knob Auto. I just bought a used RAM 2x4 from Enterprise. 2014, for less than 1/2 the sticker(it was in the glove box). I just can t buy a new one.

Personally, I like one with big bumpers, and a nice comfortable seat... but that's just me.

For a best buy, get something used, get a 3/4 ton and avoid diesels.

Like others said, it's what matters to you. My 02' Chevy Silverado w/ 5 speed manual and 150k miles is a Work Truck. Didn't need an 8' bed since I've got one on the '02. Needed rear seats for my 2 dogs, so extended cab was a must. Towing package was another must. Automatic was pretty much a given. New Truck was out of the question $$$-wise. Been watching auctions and bidding on a few, looking at stuff in the $5k-$18k range. Found a very clean, no rust '04 F150 on the street with exact equipment I want and 150k miles for $6k. Works for me.

If you have cash, you can name your price on trucks over 150,000 miles....cause nobody will finance them.
