Purchased D2 Cat.
pony runs, and diesel runs.
Bad noise at bevel gear bearing. that is what was said
Please recommend best way to fix.
pull motor and work from flywheel end, or disasemble rear of machine.
Do not know status of steering clutches, main clutch, never moved tractor under power, bought it with top covers off.
was told it ran irrigation pump, most of its life.
8611 hours, minor compression seepage at head to block, will retorque. thanks in advance.

I don t know the best way to go about it, but have you seen Squatch253 on YouTube? He has done a masterful series on a nut and bolt overhaul of an early D2 with the pony motor.
Probably take two days to watch all of his videos of the two+ year restoration, but I guarantee he will answer any and all questions about tearing an early D2 apart and restoring it to like new.

You begin disassembly at the rear of the case. There's two guys on YouTube. As said, Sasquatch and also Pacific Northwest Hillbilly. PNH worked over a D4, but it's all similar. Sasquatch likes D2-s. The bevel gear and cross shaft are under the rear cover in their own compartment.
