Beyond frustrating!

And to Jim… using the choke does seem to help sometimes, and not others…
If the choke application (in moderation) when the issue happens is temporary in that the effect lasts only for a few seconds, the fuel supply issue is indicated. Do the volume test out the drain for at least a minute or 2 into a clean can. a half pint or more is OK. Jim

The pin I'm referring to would be at the front face if you will or in other words nearest the fan blades. Usually they are slightly inset and are thus covered with dirt. It rides on the front end of the shaft that has the weights on it so it is near the center of the front end of the governor casting. Did you know their are timing marks on the governor gear that line up with marks on the cam gear? The are also timing marks on the internal gears in the magneto and the gear that runs the rotor has an R and an L stamped on it.
Maybe you should call me. 231-557-3163. I'm in the Eastern time zone. Anytime from 7am to 11pm is ok so call me please.
Dave

Hi Dave - I checked the timing, found the timing mark on the flywheel. It was off a bit (advanced), reset the mag. Still bucks and kicks with a load. With the new mag setting, however, it seems the coil is much further away from the block than I would expect it to be. See picture. Thoughts?
Jim

I may have missed it in this discussion, but did you try opening up the power needle a little bit more? They'll run on a bad setting, but they will work on the right setting. If some choke helps, open up the power needle more. steve

To everyone following or reading this thread… thanks. Problem solved! Runs beautifully , no hesitation under load, lots of power. The fix? Throwing the cheap, crappy Chinese carbs (2) in the trash. Finding an original Zenith carb, rebuilding and installing. What a difference - no more frustration!
