Was in an Amish shop this morning and he collects anvils. He had one that weighed 1400 pounds and was made in England. He bought it a few years ago from the family that had imported it to TX. It was the biggest I ever saw. Should have taken a pic. Tom

Does that Amish shop do wheel work or know where to find a wheelwright? Got a pair of grain drill wheels that need to be rebuilt & would like to find someone a lot more local than South Dakota, Montana, etc.

Not knowing where you are located, you could try Wenger Systems in New Holland, PA 17557 - (717) 656-9876. This is an Amish shop that makes custom wheels when you can't find what you are looking for anywhere else. They are not Wenger's of Myerstown. May be a little difficult to deal with on the phone, be patient, good honest people, excellent work.

Absent Minded Farmer: One of the best wheelwrights in north america is Wagonman Shelton, Hugh Shelton a friend from Gonzales, TX. He's rebuilt Mardi Gras floats after Hurricane Katrina and for Knott's Berry Farm in California. I've driven many a mile with my horses and wagon along with Hugh Shelton driving his. He's also built some fabulous wagons. He's a real craftsman! Betcha you didn't know that all Mardi Gras floats are on wooden spoke wheel chassis, did ya?
Borntrager's Combination Shop in Beeville, TX is another place where Leroy Borntrager rebuilds wheels. Hugh is much better equipped and does much better work and is more expensive. Leroy is LOTS cheaper.
