Big R stores

Any one know anything about them? One just opened close to me. Got 2 sale adds and if the store is anything like the sale adds I am not impressed. Nothing that I would be remotely interested in.

Have one by me. I like it just fine. Is like a Blaine's Family Fleet and a much larger Tractor Supply. I don't have a problem with them. Mine always carried ammo, but as far as firearms only muzzle loaders and air rifles until about a month ago. I went back to take a look at ammo, they now have a full line of side and long arms, average prices. Mine is well stocked with Carharts, Levis, rubber and leather work boots and other clothing. Pet supplies.

I don't know. As stores go, seem ok to me but to each, his own.

They will sometimes refuse to accept a check. Brother and I both have had that happen, at the time they were using a Telecheck service. If it "looked" like your account had too much recent activity than "average" they will refuse your check. Brother called the manager, and it was finally accepted. We both told the manager another small local farm store will gladly take our checks, so that's where we go mostly..

Years ago there was one in Fort Wayne Indiana and was a need to stop any time we were in Fort Wayne.
A few years after the went out of Fort Wane we stopped at one when on a trip and I was not impressed. Rural King in Angola Indiana seems to be my farm store of choice. The last few times I went in TSC they didn't have what I needed and a few stores down at Rural King they did. No need for me to stop at TSC anymore.

Our Walmart thought they needed a bigger store so moved out on the edge of town. Yesterday a TSC sign went up on the front of the old store. We have a real good Farm and Home store in town and they know they are the only one around right now. Have a TSC store about 25 miles from me and haven't been there in years.

Our local Orschlens farm store is closing (rent to high) so leaving use with TSC. I will drive 20 miles north to Rural king if I don't need it right away, not to mention rural king has a lot of guns!

Don't know anything about big r stores but have had 2 TSC stores open up within a 20 minute drive from home. 1 of them is a very unfriendly place the other --well you get greeted at the door and are immiediatly ask if they can help you. Cant walk down an isle without someone asking you if they can help you find what you need. Will be going back.

I go to one in Cortez, CO. when I am up at our Colorado property. Similar to the IFA and Cal Ranch stores. People are pretty friendly and ask if you need help but don't dog you while you are browsing.

WE have a TSC and a Family Farm & Home 2-1/2iles away. Both are OK, but Family Farm & Home is a bit cheaper and has a better selection of belts, hoses, oils, etc. I agree with Dick L., the Rural King in Angola, IN is much better, and only 15 miles. It's our store of choice, worth the drive.

Only one I was in was in Billings MT lot of stuff, seems like a lot of clothing as well,, and one of the biggest assortment of boots I have ever seen,, there was two long rows of just girls/ladies boots,,, and did I say a very helpful attractive young lady that wanted to help me,,,, I thought it best not to give her my motel name even though she asked what I was doing that evening,,, my wife at home that trip would not have been impressed if I had lol
cnt

I wish our Oerscheln's would close. Then maybe we'd get a decent store.

Has anyone heard of Bomgaar's? They have a chain of stores here in Nebraska. Given a choice between Oerscheln's, TSC, or Bomgaar's, heading to Bomgaar's would be a no brainer. I emailed their marketing department and told them if they opened a store in our town, Oerscheln's would be gone in a month.

There is a Big R in Michigan City that I stop at on the way back from Chicago. Other than the filthiest bathroom I may have ever seen...and, yes...it is really disgusting or I would not have remembered and it is always that way, this is a really nice store. Daughters like the clothes. This year I needed one of those plastic pans for the grain auger and they had it. No one around here does that I know of. Really odd mix of things in these stores but I find myself picking things up from time to time.

We often think of our definition of farming as reality. It is pretty far from others definition. Big R, Farm Fleet, Fleet Farm TSC and others pander to money. (they must) Neo farmers and wannabe city/urban folk buy there because it makes them feel rural. The montage of product and Christmas stuff (said with a smirk) is just because it works. The best fit for me is Membachs on 23 east of St. Cloud. Not much there that is a waste of time. Jim

I emailed rural king and told them the some, even told them of an empty building. Never did hear back.

We have a Rural King in South Bend, In. and a Big R in Michigan city,In. and Big R has a huge Gun department compared to Rural King.

the big r here is alot like rualking but cleaner and tidier.

bigr is better for canning supplies and power tools (carry stihl) and i would probably say overall a bit cheaper. moved into old kmart

rualking has more nut/bolt type hardware and better pet stuff. way less clothes but probably more food and toys.

both about the same for auto/truck stuff but i would say rural may have more tractor/equipment stuff (mufflers, pto parts ect)

I would say both beat TSC in most catagories.

always thought the farm/fleet stores in SE wisconsin were pretty good when we lived up there.

We are 20 some miles from Angola Indiana. We only go once a week for food and the what nots unless it's to go to doctor's appointments. Most of those are in Fort Wane Indiana now. One last Tues. and another tomorrow. Gets old between Dixie and myself.

Holler at me if we are in the store at the same time. I'll be the only guy ever in the store wearing Round House bibs with a old dirty Oliver cap clopping around with a cane. If I am there I will be parked in one of the blue sicky spaces with a purple Chevy SSR or an Old ugly dorF home made green/white/gray primer and rust ton truck. Oh, most likely could smell like an Amish if I have my chore boots on. (:^D

About all we have around here is TSC. Which I refuse to go to. After they ripped me off on some boots.I don't know how they stay in business. You never see more than five cars in the parking lot. The local feed store is where most go for farm supplies.

If our local TSC had any less tractor stuff they wouldn't have any. But if you need something horse related it's stacked to the ceiling. Blain's Farm and Fleet are about the best around. Rural King a close second.

Rural Kings around here used to be awesome, they had everything thing and anything. Now the are junk stores, a few tractor parts, a few ag supplies, a ton of dog foods, junk toys misc foods...
