Black ink only printer

I have a HP laser jet p 1102 w it sets in the middle of the shop lives in a shop environment its 8 years old printed a zillion copy's. I use cheap toner $25 gets you two cartages. Its paid for its self in ink cost the downside the start up coast is not cheap : (
I have a P1109w and it is really good. Print is much faster than inkjets and never dries out wasting the expensive stuff. Best thing is I bought it with a full PC system at an auction. When I hooked it up at home the internal document count was 0. Never been used and very cheap.

Is there a black ink only printer made today that will work on occasional use? I don't need a color printer. If so, what's the best make/model for home use?
I got lucky and found a nicer Canon laser printer on clearance at Walmart last year for $39 instead of $119. Extra toner cartridge on clearance for $19 instead of $75. It's much faster than the inkjet, only downside it's USB cable hookup only, no WiFi or Ethernet connection. I also have a Brother Inkvestmant Tank inkjet printer for about 4-5 years now that's been trouble free. I won't ever buy another HP printer.

I just bought one from Best Buy it's a HP and it can work wired or wireless and used a toner cartridge instead of ink. That's much better and from what the IT guy at work told me lasts a long time.

I bought a Brother HL2340DW for a backup unit to our main office printer 15 years ago. For a while it became the printer of choice for those employees in the rear of the office that were to lazy to walk down the hall. Overall it has been a "best buy", does double sided, is relatively fast and has been trouble free.

Have a HP Laser printer that is running and has been since early to mid 1990s. only real choice for B&W only.

I mainly print e-mails and black and white text from .pdf files. I have noticed that I consume more ink from the larger sized black cartridge and the least amount of ink from the small black cartridge. Is this because the large black cartridge is black text? I have my print settings to print in color using all ink cartridges.

Would it be more cost effective to change the printer setting to prink in black and white only vs using the color cartridges? The thinking is I would only have to change one cartridge (the large black one) most often vs buying a multi-pack of all the ink colors when one color runs out.
Yes is the simple answer. When it becomes undependable, purchase a Laser. I have a Xerox WorkCenter 6024 that can go for a very long time with no issue starting back up. and no Purging that wastes liquid ink. every cleaning task needed. Jim
