Hello,
When i work on a riding mower in my garage, i use an impact wrench to take stubburn blades off.
But whenever i need to do it somewere else, i always have to rig something like a 2x4 to try and old the blades. I'm thinking of making some kind of tool to hold the blade somehow.
Anyone have a better way?
Guido.

i slip a length of pvc plastic pipe over the blade to hold it whilst removing the blade. 2 inch or 2-1/2 in works good. a length of iron pipe works good too if ya have any laying around

I think that this is what you are talking about , Sir. It is only $9.98 + tax at Lowes . That is about the same price that it would cost you to make a homemade unit, if not cheaper , and without all the work / trouble of making yourself one. TSC. also has them a few cents cheaper , but not much. Here is a link to that page were you can see their ad for it .

Blade Buster at Lowes

Hello Whizkidyus,
Not a blade puller i need, but a blade holder.
The link worked just fine.
Guido.

Hello Gleenster,
I have some of that pipe, i'll give it a try.
Thanks ........Guido.

Hello ScottyHOMEy,
I have been using the 2 by twice and the 2 by sixes. My search goes on.
Guido.

A piece of channel iron boxed in and open on the ends. 8 to 10 inches long. slide it over one blade and line it up and slid it onto two blades at the same time and loosen the bolt.

It binds up the blades and holds them.

That blade buster is a blade holder not a puller. I have one just like it. You set the blade in it then clamp it on to the side of the deck then loosen the bolt. It keeps the blade from moving while you are taking the bolt out.

Hello Haywood,
It looked more like a puller then a blade holder.
That is cheap enough, even if it is used for your personal mower. I'll have to check it out next trip to the home store,. Thanks !
Guido.

I'm not sure how any channel works on the off side of a rider without an opening. Not sure how that blade holder works either. I use a 2 by or my hand.

I suppose an easy way would be to use a C clamp on the deck or use some vice grips on the side of the deck. Maybe clamp a block of wood or piece of angle iron to the side or top of the deck with grips or a clamp. Maybe those chinese vice grips might have a use yet.

Mr. Guido ,

With all respect to you and no disrespect intended , Sir , the blade buster is a blade holder, not a puller, as the item description says at the bottom of the pages on the links.
But , yes , I can see where it might resemble a puller.

Thank you , Sir

Whizkidkyus

Before you make fun of me , Mr. ScottyHOMEy, maybe you should read the item description at the bottom of the page on the links . It clearly states that it is a blade holder , not a puller . While I admit I don't know everything, I do know a little . Please read up on the item next time .

Thank you ,Sir

Hello Whizkidyus,
You are right, i read the tool's handle and i took it to be a blade buster/ puller.
The store is not really close to me, but i will certainly check it out,,,,,,,,,,, Thanks.
I may make my own if i need it before i have a chance to get to the store.
Have a good day............Guido.

I screwed 3 pieces of 2 X 4 together to form a C or a U. Then you just put one end under the deck to hold the blade and the other end on the outside of the deck to catch a corner or a bracket. Cheap and works like a charm.

Hello,
I made this tool last night.
It is made from 1/4 in" rod that came from a lanwmower hadle. It is 14" long. I made the 2 hooks of different size to accomodate blade dept in the deck. Works good, one hand blade removal.
Guido.
