Block crack between the side covers

Has anyone ever seen a block crack on the verticle piece of metal that is between the 2 side covers that cover the valve springs on the engine. It is all the way through. I can"t see were it would case any real problems other than a slight oil leak and what is one more. I do not know how long it has been like this. I was just going to use some silicone when I put the side covers back on to try to minimize the leak,. This is on a 1941 9n, that has been running fine. I just needed to replace the manifold and thought while I had that off I would fix the side cover leak. By the way they were leaking from the bottom. That is when I saw this crack. Any thoughts from anyone, repair advice. Thank you in advance.

I have seen a crack in this area as well, and do not think this would cause any oil leakage. It was on my 1948 8N trailer queen. I just put mine back together and it has been running fine with no leaks since.

Zem, I had the same problem with a 48 8N. My crack was all the way through. When I did my rebuild the machinist told me he put a small "V" in the crack and braised it. He then ground it off. Been great for six months now - no problems. Good luck.
