Block heater location JD 790

I want to install a block heater on a 790. It has the Yanmar 3 cyl diesel. I was looking at a parts schematic and it looked like there was a threaded plug I could take out and install a block heater. It was supposed to be either 3/4” or 1”. What I found on the engine was different.

On the injection pump side of the engine there are 3 regular knock out style freeze plugs. They look to be 1”. On the opposite side of the engine there are two plugs. One is threaded and the other is knock out. Those look to be 1 1/4”.

Anyone with a 790, where did you put the block heater? I’d prefer the threaded style. Pics show the side with the two plugs.

Here is a link to what the 790 parts catalog shows for a coolant/block heater.

That’s the pic I was looking at originally. I saw those plugs on the pump side of the engine. Seems like they’ll be harder to get at with everything that’s going on on that side.
And it looks like they have an adaptor to install a threaded plug where the knock out freeze plug is?

I’ll have to look closer for any other plugs I might have missed

Doing some more research, there might be a plug behind the starter. At least on the 850 there is. I was reading another thread where you have to remove the starter to get to the plug.

I think the location for the adapter and heater shown in the parts catalog is on the right side, at the rear of the block, about the level of the injection pump.

Yeah I’m hoping that’s not my only option for this engine. I’m thinking the adaptor is because the coolant passage isn’t deep enough for the heater element.

Going that route makes it a bit more expensive. I’d have to buy the adaptor, and I’m assuming it’s only available from JD

Seeing two different part numbers for cylinder blocks .

The images suggest a threaded boss for the coolant heater . Yet the coolant heater image indicates a block with a two bolt flange ?

He was looking on the starter side for the location and the catalog indicates the oil filter side. I just passed on what the catalog shows for a heater and location. I see three different blocks in the parts catalog and just the one heater and bolt on adapter, so to me it indicates one should fit the three, I may be wrong on that. He needs to inspect his block to see if there is mounting provision for the adapter or a direct thread in heater to be sure what he needs.
