Those were good years on the farm, a bushel of grain brought about the same $ as today, only it went a bit further. A new 51 Ford 4 door came home here, across the road a 6 cyl Oliver (77 maybe?) as a young kid I just remember those red wheels, louvered hood panels and the smoothness of that 6 cylinder plowing, vs the 4s we had here. That tractor really sticks in my head

That is a great family picture from the past. Imagine being able to afford a tractor, truck, and combine in the same year. Certainly not these days. I distinctly remember going past Newton Implement as a kid and seeing all those new Case tractors on the lot. We got our 830 COM standard from Marvin Zimmer-good guy. Thanks for posting. Don

There was just a Post on Facebook about the price of corn was $3.84 a bushel in 1974, exactly what it is, perhaps even lower today.

This DC and a 50 Olds were bought new by a neighbor, Case 3/16s plow also. He built a new house that year too. Early 50s were pretty good years as Dad told of guys paying for a quarter of land with a flax crop. I have that 50 DC in my line-up....

In 1950 my Dad bought a brand new VA Case with a three furrow plough , and a mower, and a hay rake and a brand new 50 Chev, two door car. Paid cash for the whole works. No doubt they where profitable times on the farm.
