Bob(Aust) pertronix?

I put one on my 1948 TE 20 (sn 28383).
With help from John(UK), I contacted vintage performance(dot)com/retrorockets/lucas.htm, who provided the exact unit I needed.
Part number is LU145 and it cost about $93 USD.
Best investment I could have made.
My distributor is a Lucas, model #D3A4.
Good luck.

Well, there [i:08544ef0ba]is[/i:08544ef0ba] an interesting point to keep in mind!

It appears the TE20, made in the UK with Continental engine, has the same Lucas D3A4 distributor as the later TEA20, made in the UK with the Standard engine!! I thought the Z120 engine had a gear driven distributor, as the Lucas distributor has an off-set quill drive.

Rusty, you mention your tractor is negative earth. Once you've installed the Pertronix Igniter, don't reverse polarity or you will instantly fry the unit!

Here's the Pertronix Igniter installed in the Lucas distributor in my TEA20:

No condenser, no points - no more problems!

You will not be disappointed!!

Does anyone know if these are still available? I am looking for a Pertronix Ignitor for my 1948 Ferguson TEA20 with the 80mm Standard engine.

Confusion!!!

Richard started a new thread when he answered your question.

Yes, they are available from this web site, [b:a6ceda1302]CLICK HERE[/b:a6ceda1302].

Not sure why the image has gone from my post above, but I posted the same photo this morning on the thread regarding TEA20 valve timing.

I promise you .... you will not be disappointed in the performance improvement in your Fergy!

Thanks for that mate, I found the new thread and then found the item. Reassuring to know that I found the right item though!

How do I tell if my tractor is wired up for negative or positive ground? It's been converted to 12v.

So you noticed a performance increase? Is it also easier to start now?

[b:257661aa61]Dauntless[/b:257661aa61].

Which side of the battery is wired to earth/ground? The battery should be marked positive (+) and negative (-). If in the conversion an alternator was fitted to the tractor, I am 99% sure it will be negative earth.

Much easier starting, revs quicker and feels like more power but I suggest you also buy their high voltage coil. You will not be disappointed!

You obviously have a very early TEA20. I [u:257661aa61]think[/u:257661aa61] the distributor will be a Lucas D3A4 - the model number will be stamped into a narrow aluminum plate riveted to the distributor body - in which case you need a Pertronix Part No LU-145.

If your tractor still has a generator, still positive (+) earth and you are unsure how to convert to negative (-) earth, post the question here - it is quite simple.

hanks mate, I thought it was that easy. It's definitely negative earth.

ood to know! I already have a hot coil on it, and have a few spare Bosch coils from injected Volvo 240s, they are a very hot coil, too hot to use until I get rid of the points.

hanks, I'll have a look. The tractor is TEA #57084. Here is a link to my gallery of photos of the tractor:

t's definitely 12 volt negative earth, with some sort of Australian made alternator.

Should have guessed - another Aussie!!!

I'm just over the border at Roma in God's Own Country (the land of XXXX)!

I found the Aussie Pertronix distributor very unreliable and bought direct from Pertronix in the USA, via their web site. When I bought both sets (for my Jag and the Fergy) they cost less than Aus$100 each, including freight. After yesterday's foreign exchange disaster and massacre of the Aussie Buck, you'll probably need a home mortgage to buy a set.

I can email you the Pertronix Instruction Sheet and any other information you need for that model if you wish bfulton(at)goldenwest.org.au

Good luck!!!
