While doing some reassembly work I ran across this bolt (see picture) and I do not remember it. It has a hole in the end and about five threads up. Where does it go? Oil,Hydraulic and water is all that I worked with. Could someone have sneaked it in on me to drive me crazier than I already am. Bolt size 1 1/2 inches long and it has a flat washer on it.

The stud bolt in the center that holds the rocker arm assembly is drilled like that so that oll can come to supply the top end. It's supposed to be a stud bolt, but maybe someone replaced it with a bolt.

So, you are saying the correct drilled stud is in place at the center rocker arm support thus eliminating the possibility that this bolt was previously in that spot.

Just my thought, that looks like the drilled hole weakens the bolt strength substantially. I would not torque on that too much. It looks [ to me ] of somebody having drilled the hole themselves.

Thank you guys for pointing that out to me. There is indeed a bolt like this one that goes in the center rocker arm post, and if a person were not paying attention they would miss it. There is a 3/16 inch hole running up through the post. I don't know if some had changed the bolt for a stud in my replacement head or not, but I do know that I will be changing it back to this bolt. There is no way that oil could get up there without this hole. Mine was full of crud oil, grease and grime which covered over the holes in the arm.

The original was a drilled stud, not a bolt. Your bolt is likely home made. Check the existing stud to see if it is drilled for the oil passage. Bolt or stud, heed FBH44's comment. Neither will take the torque of standard hardware.
