Bought this today

This has been sitting where we have been doing some work. Asked about it several times, today they were ready to sell. Not running but NOT stuck. Appears to have very little wear,dirty fuel system is the reason it was taken apart.

Ron, that is a nice one from what I can see. I've run lots of those and the 655's too, always thought well of them. Wonder how it will turn out with what you describe? Looks like you got a nice deal with what can be seen, hopefully not worn pins and bushngs. Not a lot of 4 post ROPS models up this way with the weather, but they were a good backhoe as I recall.

Does it have a Perkins in it ?

Odd looking addition to the muffler, spark arrestor or something ? Maybe it was working in forestry or something ?

Long time and local excavation outfit in town here still has one of these, takes good care of his equipment too, its lasted through all these years on his jobs.

It was used around a petroleum distribution center working around earthen dams that surround huge storage tanks. It has spent most of it's life sitting. We have had a 5500, 5550s, and a 755A for many years. I don't think I have ever run a 555.

That explains the spark arrestor, also explains its condition knowing how those kinds of tank farms are set up.

I should have added, we sold quite a few 5500's way back when, municipalities, and power companies would buy multiple units, our town had one we sold up until maybe 10 years ago, we had painted and decal'd them in the towns color of orange back then. It stood out years later as they changed to red at some point which I can't recall.

There's a lot of digging left in that old girl. Late enough to have 1 piece cylinder pistons, early enough to not have electronic shuttle, just good old lever controlled hydraulic F/R.
