Brake Disk Thickness

I pulled apart my final drive to check the brakes. The disks seem to have different material on the outside then the inside. The outsides are red, the insides black. The outer on the left side was almost completely gone, just a very thin layer that peeled off when I removed the disk so it obviously has to be replaced. The outer on the right side is only 0.045” (3/64”) thick. My dealer couldn’t tell me how thick it should be. Is this side also almost gone? I could order one then compare the new one to the right side but that will cost me several additional days of down time if I do it in 2 stages.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, removing the axle housing was very easy and I'm pouring money into this tractor like crazy so I'd like to save or defer $200 if I can. I don't know if there is 80% or 10% left on the outer pad.

SURELY the shop manual would have a "no-go" thickness spec. for the linings.

Did the dealer actually grab a shop manual and check?

Might suck a bit, but put new pads in.

It will feel 10x worse when you have to tear it down in a year or two because you didn't fix it right the first time

Here's the thickness BUT I'm with the others as I'd install NEW brake disc. Your tractor is a 2630??????

Yes, a 2630. Sorry, I should have mentioned that; I added that to my profile for future reference.

0.380 is what my dealer told me and what I found on the JD parts website. But if that is a true figure, my pad in question (right side) measures 0.386 so it is thicker than new. One reason I'm discussing this, besides the $175 - 200, is the right side did not have a brake line so all braking was taking place on the left side. Before opening it up I assumed the right side would be metal to metal and the previous owner just removed and plugged the line to save himself some expenses. But the right side is in much better shape than the left side.

I'll order one then compare it to the right side. If the new one is noticably thicker than the current one I'll order another. That will just cost me 2 or 3 days. My wallet is getting thinner and thinner.
