brakedrum oiler cap?

I found, on my 51 A, what seems to be an oiler cap on each brakedrum while I was cleaning off 60 years of grease and grime. My question is what should I squirt in there for lub? Would WD-40 work? I have noticed that one of the drums stick alittle and needs a gental wack to free it completely.

I use motor oil. I think WD-40 would be too light.

The owners manual says to fill the cups with motor oil. Fill FULL.

You may have a pedal sticking too. Some of them have a grease fitting at the bottom to lube the pedal shaft. Not sure on your exact model and year though. If no place for a grease fitting then try some penetrant by the pedal shaft.

I wouldn't get too carried away oiling the oil cups either as then you may get too much oil and it may work it's way onto the brake linings.
Check for up and down play of the brake drum shaft if too bad the bushings could be bad from no lube.

WD-40 and 3-in-1-oil will both dry out..

Motor oil is far better..

And I certianly dont mind helping a guy out but the info in the operators manual is very useful and some folks for whatever reason will ruin a couple $500 dollar parts because they are too hard headed to buy a $30.00-$50.00 manual. They would rather ask every little question here.

I hope you didnt take my response to be disrespectful but rather as a suggestion to purchase a manual.

If you dont already own a manual try a place called "Davenport Tractor". They offer much better quality manuals than Deere and for a better price. They are friendly people to boot...

I have the original mannual that my grandpa got when he bought in new in 51. Sorry! But I like to ask on here cuz you get more of a response. AND I never think to look in the mannual.

There are two bushings on the brake shaft, an inner and an outer. The inner bushing is lubricated by splash from the differential/final drive. The outer bushing is lubricated by the oil cup on the brake housing.
