brakes

have a ub special with poor brakes am thinking about extending the brake lever to increase pressure on disc whitch are too expensive.Will it work,or am i wasting my time ?????????????????

The brakes on my 550 Ollie had gotten to the point that it wasn't safe to drive and of course I was dreading having to deal with it. One wouldn't work at all and the other was dragging all the time. When I dismantled them I discovered they were just full of mud dauber nests and brake dust. After a good cleanup and adjustment they work fine. Hope you get lucky too.

Have you disassembled the brakes to see what the problem is? Are the brake disks coated in oil or grease? If they are, sometimes you can clean them up with brake clean and a hot water washer to help cook the oil out. The disks may be expensive, but so can the repairs or doctor bills if they fail when you are driving it or loading it on a trailer.

HI Ken.I had the same problem with my UB.Call Welters Farm Supply, 1 417 498 6496.They will mail them right to your house and they are not that expensive.Mine were all worn out , and adjusting the linkage did not work , but you could try.Most cases is that all the lining is gone, or most of it . Its an easy fix, and you will love how well your tractor stops when you are done.jim
