jmor or soundguy, i checked with 4 radio shacks in the area and only one listed a bridge rectifer seems that r.s has deleted them went on line and tried to order and was back orderd, then sent me notice that was discont, only one they had was a 400 volt25 amp would this work

Ben........would it surprize you to learn a "bridge rectifier" is 4-diodes??? and since you are only using 1-diode outta the bridge for yer 6-volt round-can cut-off replacement scheme, then 400-volts at 25-amps is plenty strong enuff for 6-volt 11-amp replacement. ........Dell, retired Electronics Engr

Yes.

You will NOT be using it as a bridge rectifier, simply paralleling two of it's diodes for more current currying capability.

These units are HANDY for this job not because there's 4 diodes built in (2 ofwhich don't get used) but because of their screw mounting and metal base which carries away heat to the base it get mounted on.

you've already heard it.. but yeah.. since the 9n/2n genny is an 11 amp job.. .. well.. 25 is gonna do ya 2x+, so it's a no brainer..

thanks guys sorta figgerd thats the way it worked just wasnt sure about the voltage, love to try stuff when im told that it wont work,if you dont do it you will never know if its right or wrong and a lot of times im wrong just ask my wife haha thanks again

Stupid question: Does the rated voltage have anything to do with how much current the diode will pass at a much lower voltage?

as bob said. that v number you see is a PIV number.. peak inverse voltage.. and in your setup.. the diode won't be seeing mor ethan 6-7vpiv :)

Dell, isn't the current rating doubled when you connect the two opposite corners?

That is the current can flow through two of the diodes rather than just one.

MF.......NO, current and voltage rating is set by the DIODE used in the bridge, not the bridge. In this case, he used a bridge 'stedda' a diode 'cuz Radio Shack claimed they don't do diodes ennymore ........Dell
