Briggs and Stratton starter

I had to take a half inch quarter in drive socket to the grinder to make it shorter and smaller in diameter to remove the bad starter.
Just wondering if they made a special socket to the hard to get to bolt ?

I have one modified too. I used a u-joint type. On Vanguards you can reach it with a long box end from the bottom to break it loose then use the flexy one to spin it out. 321902 is the BS part nbr. But those are metric 13mm I think

Yes they do.
They are called "Low Profile Drive Sockets". Readily available in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive.

That right hand bolt can be real trouble. Most of the later ones have a TORX socket in the head. (Provided they still have the original bolt in there.) A long torx bit works best. Most of the rest can be taken off with a 1/2" size 1/4 inch square drive six point regular socket. It also helps to turn the flat side of the starter drive to line up with your bit or extension.

A Phillips or torx would be nice, This bolt had neither.
I had to remove the left bolt first and as I loosen the right bolt I pull the starter out so the socket doesn't come in contact with the starter drive.
