bucking/stalling 8n

tired 8n

My 8n had been running fine (mainly hauling stuff on a trailer firewood etc.) But now that it is getting grass cutting time I have run into a problem. vWhen i went out to bush hog the tractor ran fine..until it warmed
up. Then it started to buck and eventually stall. I could start it again as long as I used the choke. And then it would quit again. if i use the choke while it's bucking i can prevent the stalling . Am i starving the
carburator for gas?

Remove the plug in the bottom of the carburetor and measure the flow. See how long it takes to fill a pint jar. should fill it in 2 to 3 minutes. Don't just pull the plug and see fuel and claim you have good flow, measure it. If you have fuel flow then you can look elsewhere.

Always, always check your spark First.
As soon as it quits get out of the seat, pull a plug wire and Verify that you have a bright bluish white spark that will jump at least 5/16".
It requires NO tools to do this.
Only then go on to fuel or air.

tired..........iff'n yer 8N has the weird 4-nipple front mount dizzy, (points = 0.015) it'll start and run fine fer about 1-hr and by then the squarecan ignition coil will have warmed up and you'll have weak sparkies that will still ignite an enriched mixture caused by pullin' yer choke knobbie. Ennytime you have runnin' problems, change yer sparkies. Recommend AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025. Don't throw yer FLOODED sparkies away, just clean'n'dry them, one-atta-time in HOT runnin' engine and save'um fer the next time its hard to start. (and there will bee a NEXT time) The ONLY cure fer a BAD squarecan ignition coil is REPLACEMENT. ........HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
