building a pulling engine

OK, I'm looking for suggestions on what to do to a perkins 236 diesel engine to get the most hp for pulling. Any suggestions on pump work or alternate pumps would be great. Also, any ideas on potential head work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend putting an inline injection pump of some sort (Bosch preferably) but there really isnt much you can do with the head. Port and polish and biggest intake valves you can get is all about you can do. Put a 248 Perkins in there because you cant tell the difference between the two anyways and that extra 12 cubic inches will help. What tractor are you going to use?

Thanks for the advice. I already had the 236 engine, which I why I used it. I put it in a MF 65. I would like to have a 248.

I pulled it all last season and did very well. I will try to post a video and put the link on here. I love the tractor, would just like to get a few more horses.

Look up the Coldridge collection in Devon England. The pictures are from the Ferguson Club's website.In pic 10 is the Agco owned MF265 tractor puller built by the Massey lads. This tractor with a 236 motor was putting out around 800 hp just before it retired. It has since lost it's big wheels and is a bit run down but it out- pulled everything in its day.
You need to look at an injector pump from a truck and a turbo plus high lift cams etc......and a heavy wallet which will get much lighter!
