Bush Hog 306 Price

Hello,

I searched for similar, posts but was hoping for something a little more direct.

I have a bush hog 306, 72 deck. I only have 2 acres and its mostly lawn, so I dont really have any use for it. I negotiated it as part of the tractor sale, so I dont really have anything into it. It appears to be in pretty good shape (my uneducated opinion) so I was hoping yall might be able to tell me about how much I could sell it for as a stand-alone implement in the upstate SC area.

Thanks,
AGSC

In my area, Southern Illinois, a general average on a used rotary cutter is roughly $100 per foot of cut on 4-7 foot cutters. Give or take depending on condition and brand

Check out Craigslist and MarketPlace for your area. That will give you an idea of what similar sized cutters are going for in your area. Around here used Bush Hogs go for a bit more than the others, but not much, and while asking price may be hire the actual settled on sale price is an unknown.

In South Jersey: I spent $400 on my 72 Howse. It's rusty, but the PTO shaft is long enough, the gear box didn't leak oil (although it was full of water), and the blades were in good shape. They guy probably could have gotten $600 from me.
If yours is clean and in good shape with the PTO Shaft and good blades, $1000? Does it have chain guards? They are pricey....

Why are york rakes so expensive?

I paid $1000 for a tow-behind Bush Hog 306 in August of 2020. The seller, a widow, was asking $1100.

Other than faded paint and dull blades the mower was straight and solid. Most rotary mowers I looked at were worn thin where you could see a circular dent in the top from the blades. You know they're on their last legs when the top is getting that thin.

Is it a 3-point model or a trailing model? A 3-point is more common on a small size cutter. Is the paint faded? Blades in good shape? Sharp cutting edge with no big nicks? Is gearbox full of good clean oil or water? Drive shaft not bent and extends and collapses easily?
Dad had a 6 ft Brillion trailing rotary mower, heck, everybody in our neighborhood had one, probably a dozen of them around, I pulled it over a couple hundred acres every year with my Super H. It only had two universals joints on the pto shaft, one on the coupler, the other clear back next to the gearbox. It HAMMERED TERRIBLY on turns, even if I made big wide turns, like cutting 2 rows of corn stalks, skip 6 and take 7th & 8th rows. They had an option for a 3 joint driveshaft but it cost more, I'd never seen one till recently. IH made the 3 joint driveshaft standard on all their cutters. I'M sure they cost more but the rearends of your tractors lasted longer.
Here in Southern Wisconsin, a 6 ft trailing cutter is $100 per foot, a 3-point might be a$100 to $150 less.
