Bush Hog disc

I think you have about 70HP? It should surely pull it. I pulled a 7 foot disc with my little H, but he struggled at times!!

You may can but it could be a load. A regular disc and an offset are 2 different animals. Will depend on depth, blades, soil and soil conditions.

With a 706D what what would your f to Ike’s of thumb for brush diameter you could drive through With a 7-8 for pull behind older brush hog- Example: old growth sumac patches or trees in set aside fields. We are infested with multi flower rose (was given out free in Ag class when I was young by the Dept. of Ag and Local Extension Office as ‘wireless fences’ ) many of those can be driven over though they reach 6-8 ft high. 100,000 acres of pasture have been ruined through the years at huge cost to the farm. Yet who is held accountable…. A horribly huge problem in our area in sw Wi

Auto correct didn’t like ‘rule of thumb’ sorry

Will depend on mower. A true heavy duty could probably cut better than 2 inch brush. Now if cutting anything above 1/2 inch or so, what kind of sticks are you leaving standing to puncture tires. And just how big of brush do you want to drive thru. Here in brushy grow up, they bring in munchers on skid steers to reclaim then spray.

Well let me tell you about your ROSE BUSHES . The last thing ya want to do is take a offset disc to them . First off you will go broke on junking out the tires , and if you think they are bad now just wait till next year they will now fill a filed as the ROOST will be spread out even feather out and they will come back with a vengeance .I made that mistake but with a dozer as i was smart enough not to put a wheel tractor in them , learned that from the summer we mowed gas line right a way for Tennaco four lines 97 miles each over ground in places a Dirt bike could not go . One farm i rented was pollutied with them darnj things . I got help from the Gov. and used a herbicide call Spike . Came in pellte form like water softener pellets . ya threw a hand full at the base of the bush before a decent rain and before long ya had dead brown bush and in a few months then ya put the dozer to it NO WHEEL TRACTORS.

Multifloral Rose was imported from England during WWII. It works really well if you want a fence-less fence 20' wide. But then birds scatter the seeds everywhere until it takes over fields and woods. When I was about 5-6 a neighbor man was one of the promoters of Multifloral Rose, before he died he told my dad it was a huge mistake.

I'll admit I'm confused after reading this thread, but I'll try to add my two cents.

If you want to pull an 8' offset disk with a 706, you are going to have a load; you may have to carry it with the hydraulics and go over it twice.
An offset disk pulls hard.

If you are wanting to pull a Bush Hog through some Multi Flora Rose .............. don't .............. you will nnalert them off, and they will be back twofold, not to mention you will flatten your tractor tires.

Find a chemical and spray them.

A normal 706 gas will do the job of pulling a 8 foot offset just fine If ya can find the gas to run it on . I personally have run 706 gas tractors since the mid 70's i have bought and sold god only knows how may 706 gassers starting in 1984 my close friends ran 706 gassers as there main tractor up up till we could not longer get gas to run them on when doing real work . There is a big difference between the 706's built from 1963 till 66 as the later ones had noticeably horse power MORE on the same plow it meant a gear higher . A early 706 with a 263 and 4x16's in our ground it was fourth low high T/A on what little flat ground we have and low side on the hills jump up to the C291 and your in first high and hangs better on the hill with duals ya could handle up to a 16 foot disc in the same gear . i personally ran a 13.6 370 with 20 inch blades in high second and only because i could only get that size thru the covered bridge . most 8 foot offsets usually have 24 inch blades and most times your lucky to get a four inch deep cut .

I pulled a 11 foot jd kba disc with my 706 when I first started. I think you should be ok.
That is a tandem disc harrow, an offset disk that he is referring to takes quite a bit more hp per foot. Here is a link to a much larger Bush Hogg brand offset disk than he is talking about. Front gang is full width at an angle, rear gang full width at the opposite angle. They usually have larger diameter blades than a tandem disk. If you can get it to cut in the proper depth it provides nearly the same amount of soil disturbance as a moldboard plow.
Example offset disk

2 threads in one. One guy is discing and one guy mowing. Gee wiz!

Ya was asking advice using a brush hog and a 706D. Needing to reclaim pasture land.

Our area, due to multi flower rose, has lost 50%+ of most pasture land as farms are rougher with smaller pastures so it leaves no center open but invades from both sides and we have hills, someone named Ocooch Mtns.. pastures are steep and many places not even sensible to use a tractor and brush hog on but it’s been done so far with a Case 1030 and an original???? Old Brush Hog. If you hit a rock things get interesting fast. The woods used to be burnt and pastured but you can’t do that anymore so that is full of unreachable multiflower rose that continues to seed even more ground. Making fence with the hills and bluffs covered with rose bushes is not a job for the faint of heart. Hired men last a full day if they are the tough ones but don’t come back the second day, but it’s farm ground and is farmed. If you’re reading this and wondering cause you have rolling hills or flat pastures you won’t get the problem that I am asking for ideas about. Who would run duallys pulling a brush hog on these hill pastures?
