BushHog 3008?

What can you guys tell me about them? I found a used one that looks almost new. Guy said he bought couple a years ago and it?s just to big for his tractor (45hp McCormick). I?m looking for a medium duty city that might occasional get used in limited time in some heavy stuff. From looking at the specs on it, only thing I might be concerned about is the fiber disc shock load protection on the cross shafts. Guys says $4500 will buy it.

I have one just like it. I bought mine used in like new condition also. It is really well built. The fiber disc have not been a problem. The disc are expensive from Bush Hog but I have seen them on-line much cheeper. I really like the 3008. Mine is a 3008-2 and I was told there is a difference in some parts from a 3008 to a 3008-2. I know there are some others on here that have a 3008. I definitely give it a thumbs up!

Also just FYI the blade bolt nuts are 42mm. Not an easy socket to find in a store. Had to order one on-line. I found plenty of 41mm and I actually have a 41mm. So if you plan on removing the blades you might get a 43mm socket in advance.

1-11/16? fits well too. Bush Hog also sells a wrench that works well with a 24? or so pipe wrench.

I was not comfortable trying a 1 11/16. Last thing I wanted to do was round off the nut being in the place it is. I spent the $34 on the correct impact socket.

Your choice. I did road service at a dealership for almost 20 years. Never rounded a nut or ruined a six point socket. Bush Hog blade bolts are not metric spec. .0335? ain?t enough to make a difference on 1.6+?

Could it be possible that yours had been worn down a little? Sandy, gritty conditions maybe? And I appreciate the info on the mower. This one is suppose to be a late model so I?m assuming it?s 3008-2. I?m on the fence between it for $4500 and a new Titan delivered to me for $3500.

The new nuts were the same. I would go with the Bush Hog. $4500 sounds a little high. I only paid $3500 for mine about 2 years ago. I know I got a really good deal on mine.

10 footer is just a little big for me, but I have priced the TRI delivered for about $3300 for a guy down in Tennessee. He also priced the Jbar 8 ft for just under $3k. I?m just a little skiddish of the TRI and Jbar for some reason. I don?t know if anyone that has either or has ran them. Appreciate the link though...

$4500 seems a little high to me too, but he says it?s almost new, probably used less than 10 hours. Just from talking to him, he doesn?t seem like he?d move much on the price. I can buy a new bh27 for $3800 or a new 2308 for $5100. The 2308 looks about the same as the 3008, except it?s got oval blade holders which I don?t care for.

I think if you compare the 3008-2 you are looking at to those other brands you will find the 3008-2 is way heavier built. I believe the 3008-2 is nearly 1700 pounds. The other brands might work for you. It just depends on what you are going to cut with it.
