Busted 170 hydraulic pump

Hi. I read an old form about this very problem but was not able to contact the poster for more info about how he made out. (posted back in 09)
Anyway, I have a 170, tripple pump, with ctr gear plate split at the two alignment pins, seems weakest points. This happened to previous owner in winter and he suspected ice. Me, it happened at +37°C while running a hog. The tractor is old, given, and the hydraulic detents seem very sticky. I suspect a combination of these sticking valves, and perhaps a very sticky over pressure relief valve. I think, this pump developes over 3K psi which would easily split the gear plate if not relieved. At any rate, I am having a very difficult time locating parts for this pump where I live (Cape Breton, NS, Canada). Any advice and info on where I can get parts for this ol monster would be greatly appreciated. Surely with the age of the beast, this must have happened to others, who are willing to share their knowledge. Thanks V much, and I am enjoying this site.

Hi, Had the same experience with the pump on my 1968 180 in January. Was able to get a replacement part from my local Agco dealer.(Terry Implement Co Gallatin,Mo 660-663-2183) Cost was around $250 which certainly beats a complete new pump. Probably Sandy Lake Implement could help you and would be closer. Good luck, John

Thanks, John.
I found a place in Ontario and it looks like they have the part in stock. NOS. So I may be in luck. They also have the pump rebuild kit that I need, too. It ain't easy finding parts for a 40+ year old tractor. I have a lot of cleaning to do on the hydraulics before I blow the money to repair, don't need this happening again. Warning to 170 owners, keep it clean and all parts moving properly or you will join us in the rebuild !
