Buying a tractor in Canada

I am from New Haven, Vermont. I have done some looking at buying a used tractor and sometimes they are listed in Canada.

Does anyone know about getting a tractor into the USA. Do we have to pay a tax or is it "Free Trade"
How much paper work is it???

The has less to do with it that what somebody at the border "thinks".
I tried to bring a FARM tractor across and the customs agent insisted on having the tractors license, registration and insurance.
Get the info from customs in writing.

Bought a Fox self propelled forage harvester last November in Lancaster New York - outside Buffalo - seller signed a receipt -all we had to do was pay the tax - unfortunately - one customs officer made us pay provincial sales tax - which at the time was not paid on large farm equipment - oh well -you can't really argue with them. They did inspect the whole machine including the dually pickup with their leather gloves on looking for Dope or whatever - never found anything - machine was very clean -only some dust stuck to the oil undercoating - make sure once you load the tractor on the trailer that you thoroughly wash the whole machine including the tires - no dirt is to cross the border that could harbour insects.

it is no hassle have seller give you a bill of sale set up an an acct with a broker have the paper work preappoved and you will have no problem how do you think the 1000's of tractors have come down from canada over the last 30 years if you do it right there is absolutely no problem they xray every tractor and check tires etc ,,,,,,,,we have never had a problem.
