Charles, years ago I stumbled upon Morris Stine's 301 in Ray Tosch's yard. In typical fashion he had the main caps wired to the block before he shoved it off the back of the truck. I bought the engine and dissected it. He'd welded in sleeves and in a previous conversation at Armada, told me how he hated changing oil after every event.

Using my sonic tester on a virgin 301, it appears a 4 inch bore will leave .090 wall thickness. Floyd Isabel suggests no more than 3.920. The sweet spot is somewhere around that mark keeping the original casting intact. From that point it's all about stroke. Yet to be determined... but 5.5 is tossed around with ease. I gotta believe there's more to be found. Mark
