CA not running right

Got a question for someone in the know. I have a CA that I mow about 4 acres with. Over the last two weeks once I get it warmed up it starts to cut out and sputter. It has new points less than month old, plugs and wires less than a year old, gets gas to carb. Could the coil be bad. Note when I bought the tractor back in 95 it was converted to 12 volt and has a resister before the coil. So I assume this is still a 6 volt coil. Any thoughts or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Couple way of checking if it is the coil. #1 see if it is to hot to hold on to for a moment or 2. #2 check the spark before you start the tractor and then check it when it starts to mess up and compare the 2 and if different good chance it is the coil.

Thanks, I will give it a try, when you cold start it, she runs great, but once she gets warm she starts acting up, only started doing this a couple of weeks ago.

Jim it's pretty common for a coil to act that way when it's going bad. Other things to check is voltage after the resistor. If the resistor is allowing more voltage through than it's supposed to it can cause over heating of the coil. Check it after the tractor has been running for a couple of minuets.

Well this at least gives me a base line to start. It rained yesterday here so I will fire up the old allis tonight and see what happens, then go from there. Thanks guys.
