Cab Tilt Question

The two Hiniker cabs on my Olivers both have hinges that connect the cab frame to the back support. Are the hinges there to allow you to tilt the cab back to remove the hood and access things better? I don't have any literature for the cabs to know if the hinges were designed for that purpose or just for mounting the cab to the rear support. Any experience tilting cabs? Thanks.

Whatever the reason for tilting the cab back check the hinges carefully FIRST. Tilted the cab back on a 4020to access the injector pump. Discovered the hinges were worn through when the cab fell to the floor upside down and broke all the glass out. Lucky no one got hurt just a little tuff on the laundry.

Yes, the hinges are there to tilt the cab back. That being said, what ever you use to lift and tilt the cab back, I've always thought it was just as easy to lift and remove the cab. fyi. what model cab you have indicates the weight of the cab ie. model 900=900 lbs. model 1300=1300 lbs.

Thanks for the confirmation. They are both model 1300s. I agree that if I needed to do major work on the rear of the tractor it would be easier (and safer) to just remove. I wanted to check to confirm the intent of the hinges in case I needed to raise the cab a little in the front for getting the hood off, etc. Thanks again.

I tilted several IH deluxe (McLaughlin) cabs when doing TA jobs, BECAUSE I could do it inside the shop where we did not have a overhead hoist to lift them off and not enough clearance to use the wrecker boom.

Used the cherry picker to lift to balance stage (with safety chains so it could not get away) and then used a come along to lower it down onto blocking.

Did some also where I drove tractor away from cab after lowering cab to work on final drive. Was not all that difficult and when it was cold out could do it all inside shop.
