any one know if theres a way you can check a cabletv line with a meader or some how to to see if there is a singnle there. thanks

There is no cheap or readily available meter to check for a signal on a cable line. There are signal strength meters that cable service men use but they are expensive. A known working TV is the best check for signal - you either got it or you don't.

Either you want to steal a signal or, if it's legit, the cable guy will help you.

Which is it?

Sometimes the lines get dirty inside . usually involves unplugging all lines and hooking them to vacuum cleaner for a short time . Also when you do this, call the cable company . They can shoot a blast of compressed air into the lines on thier end , helps to clean them out.

Yes you can. But a cheap meter is in excess of $1000. However, some meters only measure RF levels which is fine for analog. If you want to measure digital signals, you will need a meter that has a QAM constellation monitor the measures MER BER and other quality of signal measurements.

I know its been asked before but why dont you just call the cable company?

thanks for replys only have one tv just didnt know if it was the line or tv its probley tv its getten old time for new one i guss thanks again

If you have a cable modem it will tell you. Try entering http://192.168.100.1/signal.html into your browser. For TV you won't -12 dBmV and 16 dBmV closer to zero is best.

If you must boost you TV you can use a Motorola bda-k1-ra but place it after your modem. You don't wont to boost your Internet connection.
