Calling mEl- need help!

mEl, I would greatly appreciate it if you have the time to give me an estimate for a short block for my DC. I think I can be competitive with about 100-125 hp. What is necessary for this? Can I get this with 4 1/8 bore and stock stroke with 300 lbs compression? Aftermarket rods are a must, what about reinforcement of #3 main web? Of course full flow oiling with my hand clutch. Do you need for me to get an engine to start with? My opening pull was Sat, the gremlins ate my points, it sputtered all the way so I couldn't tell if my 300 psi was enough with the 4" bore and stock stroke. I have no idea what shape the bottom end is in, Its still running the babbit rods, just hoping it will stay together until I can get another short block built and not miss any points pulls in the process. I realize i should of done this in the winter but the financial gremlin was busy. I start in the 4000 lb class with 150 lb on front, still a little light but competitive. I'm running Armstrongs 16.9 x 38s, lb/sb they have some serious bite! I run 1st gear in both 3 & 5 mph classes, rpms 20% over.

I'll try to answer all your questions.

Yes Hp in that range is very easy with a stock stroke, why stop at 4 1/8 when we have a 4 5/8 design that works extremely well all day long.

Yes to custom rods, they are certainly recommended.

Yes to the rear main bracing, thanks to my friend Doug Boll for helping us get on the right page on that process

Cam by Sonny Daniels at Bullet. We will be working up roller rockers soon in higher ratios.

I will not build this engine without redoing the bottom end with rebuilt main bearings and making sure the shaft is round. if the bottom is not straight and tight crank breakage is almost assured.

I will not talk price on forum, if you are serious we will get together via phone.

Thanks, mEl

mEl, I'm definitely interested in building a new engine. I t is necessary! I'm sure I'm running on borrowed time. I responded on this forum to somewhat keep it discrete, My phone # is (859)-991-9344, or send me yours, which ever is more convenient, thank you for responding.

Tim, Just getting around to your message, Probably won"t be able to do an engine till winter , It"s a busy time for us now. My number is 570 279 1021.
