Is it possible to pull the van out of a 172 in Ford 800 without pulling the whole motor,have a dead lifter after rebuilding everything except cam and lifters

Sure why not , long as the rad is out and have room to pull it out.

If it has the mushroom lifters, the valve cover, rocker shaft and push rods have to come off, lifters will need to be held up, the dist, removed then the cam will come out. But if a lifter is dead, the cam lobe for that lifter most likely is bad too, and to replace that lifter, the pan has to come off.
