Camshaft, best solution?

Distributor was installed wrong at one time or wore out distributor bushings may have caused this. I'm thinking of cleaning it with my Dremel and applying JB weld. Only other option is to see if machine shop can weld it up and remill it. Is one side of the slot wider than the other or is it all same width?

One side is wider than the other to help prevent the distributor from being installed out of time. I doubt JB Weld would hold up. But a good machinist should be able to repair it.

I fail to see how a wider tang on distributor would prevent mis-alignment of unit on engine. DIST has a male OFFSET tang and the camshaft has the mating female OFFSET slot. You can buy new can and weights or a whole new dist, used OEM and rebuilt, and then rebuild the unit correctly, time it correctly, test it correctly, then mount it correctly.

Buy a used replacement.

There are a few guys that regularly part out N tractors on ebay and they sell cams at low prices . They don't have many listed because they rarely sell . Porter8n is a great seller and there are others . Send them a question and I would expect you could get a good one for $50 or less shipping included .

Porter8N is reliable and very reasonably priced. I have bought many things from him.

I found a good used one on Ebay from a tractor salvage place. The slot looks perfect and the lobes
dont look wore down. Ive got to replace the distributor cam and weight assembly as the tangs are
boogered up worse than I thought.

fter spending all this time, effort, $, you will probably feel that it performs better, but I have 2 cents that says that a little timing jitter can not be felt in driving the tractor.
