Can I pull a 7 shank disk chisel?

Found a Glencoe soil saver 7 shank disk chisel for sale, the ground around here is mostly clay with spots of black dirt and a few sandy spots. Will I be able to pull that chisel plow ok with a 4440? Not sure how deep I want to go yet.

hell yes, we used to pull a nine shank glenco with our 4440 on black dirt and clay. set her deep and run slow, all the trash runs thru better if you run slower anyway. you should have no problem with a 7 shank

I pulled a 13 shank with 2 railroad ties on the back with a ST310 Steiger turning 342hp. I was in heavy black central IL dirt. I was throwing lots of dirt. Stopped to measure-going 4" deep. I then bought a DMI that would separate the men from the boys. But it all depends how deep you go - 4" or 10"?? Some disc as deep as they chisel. That doesn"t do much good.

I pull a 7 shank chisel plow with my 2640 easily in clay soil and run about 7 inches deep. You have at least 10 more horsepower.

Depends on what size shovels it has and how deep you want
to go. Anyway, a 4440 should have no trouble pulling a 7
shank chisel plow with 3" twisted shovels 7-8" deep in your
soil.

The rule of thumb is 10H.P. per shank. The Glencoe has straight disk blades and twisted shovels plus most had a buster bar .They did not pull as hard as some and the teeth were spring mounted which makes a difference.I would guess it too be less than 10ft.wide frame width.Duals ,weight and depth make a lot of difference. We pull a 21ft Krause Dominator that requires close to 25H.P. per shank and is a good load for our track tractor. They came in 7/9/11/13/15 ft width and I would think a 9 or 11 would be a better fit.7ft wouldnt be as wide as duals.

I pull a, IH 11 shank spring loaded old style chisel plow with my 96 hp JD 4000. All it has is the shovels, no disc or sodbusters. I can sink them about 1' in the clay. It actually pulls them pretty well.

if you are interested in a nine shank glencoe soil saver let me know we may be able to part with one of ours here in illinois

(quoted from post at 07:53:15 09/11/12) Most chisels have a 12 inch nominal spacing..........ie 7 shanks equals 7 feet wide.

Glencoe soil savers are usually 15 inches, not 12. My 10 foot 7 shank with 4 inch twist shanks is all my 4430 with new 18.4-38 radials and axle mount duals wants usually, but it will pull my dad's 9 shank if I want to work the stuffing outta it. A 4440 is a lot more tractor and it'll pull a 9 shank Glencoe all day long.
