Can't find serial numbers.

Hi,
All the places I'v looked says that the serial numbers are on the flat area of the trans housing, right side, behind the starter. I've looked there, (and all around), and can't find any numbers. Please help me find some identifying numbers. Also, I read on here that the 740 loader will only fit on th 4500, could mine be something else or is it definitely a 4500?

(Will try to post pics as soon as I can.)
Thanks.

the 55 and up had the numbers on the flat of the bellhousing, aft of the starter.. thick paint or battery acid etching can hide the numbers..

post pics..

Found the Serial Number. Also found the other numbers too, (under blue paint). The number looks like KA314C. Working backwards with the codes goes as follows:

C = 8 speed, that one is right.

4 = Independent 540, there are hydro couplings in the back, (no PTO shaft), so I assume this one is also right.

1 = Diesel, That one is also right.

3 = ?
A = ?
K = ?
Does the 4500 have different number codes?

The other numbers are 1L04B. That one is easy:
1 = 1971
L = November
04 = 04 date
B = Day shift

Last is C680055. It was made in the USA.
Will post more pics.

Brandon,

You serial number indicates it is a 1981 tractor not a 1971. Since the 4500 was discontinued in '75 you must have a later model. I don't have access to the later model number decoder but someone on the forum should be able to help you out.

Here's some more pics. There is a weight box on the back and forks on the front, probably used lifting logs or heavy pallets. From the deminsions of the box, (full of concrete), and the DROTT weight, counterweight is around 1600lbs.

I'm not familiar enough with the x500 series or really any of the industrials to say.. perhaps rick or roddins will chime in.

Brandon,

A couple more items indicate its not a 4500. The hyd lift quadrant has two levers which is definitely from a later model. Also the tach cluster turns counterclockwise which indicates a post '75 model. My guess given my limited knowledge is either a 445 or 545 model.
