Carb leaking? farmall A

Well I got my Starter today and I am glad to say, I finally heard my A run. What an exciting thing to hear for the first time.
Now that I know she WILL run I can start spending $ making her run like she used to.

I tore apart the carb last week and cleaned out every nook and cranny, everything seemed to be good but when I turned the fuel on it started dumping out gas from the front. the needle looked ok when I took it apart. I can't imagine someone would of messed with the float! what is the best way to troubleshoot why the fuel is overflowing?

Also I just realized there is no way for the battery to recharge. was it designed that way or am I missing a generator/alternator?

Thanks again for all your help here. I am soo excited I cannot wait to drive the thing.....

My first guess is that the float is stuck or in a bind and can not come up.
Also my experince has been that when I take something like that apart I usually need new gaskets, cause the old ones rarely seal back correctly.
A rebuild kit is usually around $20.00 and they are not hard to do. I would highly recommend one. You will need to find a number on the carb so you can get the right kit.
Originally it had a 6 volt generator, a lot of people convert them to 12 volt alternator.
Hope this helps. :)

A lot of A's had no electric to start with. Ig nition was mag. If your has a distributor it could be 6 or 12 volt. 6 volt generators are available and easy to install. I believe I see the bracket bolts in the picture. Soo if the beast is 6 or 12 volt and or distributor or mag and is 112 or 5 volt is all information needed to properly advice you. As I don't see a battery I have to assume its a 6 volt mag spark started by crank or if it has a starter the battery is somewhere else. I love it when a plan comes together. Nuff said Henry

It did not have a battery but it does now. That Pic was the day I got it. It is set up with 6v battery, ext coil, and 6v starter.

I took the Carb back off and it looked like there was some gunk on the pin that holds the float and it was causing it to stick. I cleaned that off and it seems to be ok now.
I started it again and now I am having a hard time keeping it running.
If I open up the choke(take choke off) it runs for a few seconds then stalls. The guy who had it before me had a clothespin on the choke lever and now I am beginning to know why, it holds the choke on at just the right level to keep it running.
I played around with the adjustment on the side but it does not help.

I also found out it smokes like a chimney..(white) and I tried to put it in gear and it won't move at all, as soon as I start to let out the clutch it tries to die again.
What the heck could cause that? maybe because there is limited power because it isn't running right? or could something be stuck in the tranny? If I engage the PTO it tries to move but still stalls. One time in one of the gears it started to move a tad but that was it.

I am trying to be patient but I keep finding more and more problems.

Thanks again for the help...
