Carb- parts left over

Help!
I rebuilt the carb on my 1958 861 Ford tractor. I can't figure out where the very small, very light spring goes. It's about 3/4 inch long and diameter is not quite as that of a pencil. I think it has to do with the float and needle and seat.

Yep! Float assist spring. Goes between the tab on the opposite side of the float hinge and carb body. Should be pips there to keep it in place.

Larry, I'm not sure I understand. On my carb there is a second bracket that is secured by the float pivot pin. It has a tang facing down. Based on wear marks from the previous operation I put the spring between that tang and the carb top body. However, when I do this it will not allow the float to drop and open the needle. Without the spring the needle drops freely. With the spring in place the needle will not allow fuel
to pass through the seat....none...I can't even blow through the fuel inlet to unseat the needle.

Nothing, but it's an exploded view parts diagram. They're not always as clear as an actual photo.

Spring goes between your "second bracket" and your float. See link I posted. "Second bracket" goes below the float. Should be dimples or pips on both to retain spring. Again, look at the parts diagram in the link I shared.

3/4" long? Are you speaking of the spring that goes on the mixture needle or the very light weight (less than 1/2" long) spring that helps to prevent the float valve from sticking closed?

Royse, Those photos are exactly what I needed. Thank you!
When I have the spring positioned like that, the spring pressure won't allow the needle to drop and open the fuel flow. I can even blow through the fuel inlet and it will not let the needle open at all. When I assemble it without the spring the needle moves freely so the needle is not sticking. What am I missing?

That spring is so weak it's hard to believe it could stop fuel flow.
Gravity and the floats alone will open the one I have here.
Hard to say without seeing myself, but I would sooner thing it is
an alignment problem. Maybe the floats catching on that additional
bracket or rubbing on the float bowl when assembled.

It's done. The old girl fired up, ran, and didn't leak gas. I set it up like Royse's photo showed. I tried a needle without the rubber tip. I had 2 different new needle and seats- one with a rubber tip and one without. I think the seat has to match the needle tip.
I kept having trouble getting the 2 carb haves to line up because the venturi kept moving out of position but I finally got it. Thank you all for your help! Sometimes it takes a village.
