Carb Problem?

Started my 1944 2N for the first time. Fuel running out the air intake side of the carb(don"t have a air cleaner yet). Figured float must be stuck. Took carb off removed float and valve. Cleaned and reassembled and put back on tractor. Tried to start it and now no fuel at all in carb. Thinking it was stuck open before I cleaned it and now stuck closed. Do I replace the valve and seat or is there something else wrong?

Check the float to see if it might be bent and binding on the sides of the float chamber. You can drain the carb and remove it from the engine and listen to it as you alternately invert it and turn it upright. You should be able to hear the float fall freely without scraping sound if it is OK.

ditto what the other poster said.. float may be hanging up.

try this.. remove drain plug and give a rap to the side of the carb with a screwdriver handle, or wood handle of a hammer. if fuel flows, it was likely a hanging valve or flaot.

if it continues to hand on and off.. got to open the cab back up and get that float straightened out and make sur ethe needle moves freely in it's bore and seats well.

If I where you I would buy a carb kit and install it. Any time you open up a carb your better off to clean it up and install a kit which is around $20 and it will have a new needle and seat in the kit. I use Walker Brand 778-505A which I get at O'Reilly's. I also buy 2 or 3 cans of spray carb cleaner so as to be able to clean it up well
