Carb Question

I'm re-building the carb on my 4 cyl 4000 and it looks like it should have a o-ring arround the needle. However the kit included more like a rubber washer that is too big to go in the needle seat. I'm wondering if the kit had the wrong item or this carb has the wrong needle. It is stamped 055 on the hex of the seat.

I never got an oring with the kits either . Just install the needle with spring . Snug it up & then back out 1 1/4 turns to start with . Then final adjust when engine is running . HTH ! God bless, Ken

Jerry,I think Ken has the needle seat confused with the adjustment screw. The needle seat should have a flat paper type washer about .065 thickness. The one in the kit may be wrong if its too big.I would use the old one on the new seat if its still good.

I got the gasket that goes between the seat and the carb body. The fuel enters the seat through holes in the side. It could then run past the threads and out the bottom of the tractor. The needle has a slot machined in it below the threads for the o-ring I am missing.

P.S. This seat is screwed into the bottom of the carb.

Can you possibly get that little O ring at an NAPA or auto supply store oris it too small for them to stock?

It sounds like your talking about the main jet on the bottom of the carb. Yes, I would say you definitely need the o-ring on that needle or it would leak. The needle with the spring is the idle adjustment and mine does not have a gasket/o-ring on that one either. You might be able to find one that fits at an auto parts store. Good luck.
