I own a to 35 1955 with a z134 and i change the intake manifold because it was a manifold for a z129.With the new manifold the carburateur still not respond good when i open or close the ajustement.Now the ajustement is quarter of a turn for the idler and one turn for the air it is the best i can do and the rpm show 2100 at full speed.My question now is can i change my old carter for a marvel shreber carburateur.

I cant see why not i have the z134 motor it has the marvel carb.what i would be worred about if the governor & fuel linkage is the same look and see if they sell differnt lengths for the linkage maybe one size fits all carbs.

I'm no Ferguson engineer, but it seems there is something besides the manifold or carb doing this. Yes trac, linkages are prime suspect, best bet is the governor isn't acting right. When it runs good enough to stay running half throttle, try moving the distributor to change timing a bit too, just mark where it was incase this doesn't help. Carbs are lots of $, adjusting pieces is free!

Yes you can change the Carburetor if you wish, but perhaps the Carb is from the Z129 and it may have the wrong jets.The max speed you quote is a little down but OK. The main jet should be initially set to 1-1/4 turns open and 1 turn open on the air screw, the engine must idle at 450 rpm or it will not be running on the slow running jet. The main jet should not be set to less than 1 turn open or it will burn the exhaust valves. You MUST set the Carb when the engine is HOT as it would be when working. What have you got the main jet set at? there are 3 adjustments on this Carb, Main Jet, air screw for idling and the idling speed control screw. If you set the Carb to the adjustments above the engine should run until you get it hot and then you can tune it. open or close main jet until the engine will speed up from half throttle to fully open without spluttering (too weak) or black smoke (too rich) when you have that right set the slow running speed and the air screw. Are the Plugs and points gapped correctly and are they the correct plugs. Is the timing correct, have you checked it with a light. look at the timing mark below the starter (remove the blank) you will see marks on flywheel.
