Carbureator Kit

I have a 1957 ford 860 172 CI engine with a marvel schebler carbureator on it but there is not a tag on it to tell me what tsx #. I need to order a kit for it is there anyway to tell what kit I need to order without the tsx # thanks for any and all help

Do you have the carb off the tractor?? If not that is why you do not see the tag since it is on the engine side of the carb where you can not see it with out it being in hand.
That said if you have a local O'Reilly's auto parts store they sell Walker Brand kits and good chance a 778-505A will be the correct kit but if not they will have or be able to get the correct kit for it. MS makes 4 size carbs and many of the kits will cover 2 or 3 of the sizes.

As far as I know, the 860 used two carburetors: TSX 593 and 706. My '55 860 had a 593 when I got it. Unfortunately somebody'd used a pipe plug in place of the bronze drain plug and cracked the housing. I ended up tracking down a TSX 706 as a replacement carb. I think the rebuild kit is the same for either version, but I'm sure somebody will chime in if I'm wrong.

Oh, btw, on the 593 the identifying brass tag should be on the side of the carb facing outward (toward you) when installed on the tractor; it's attached to the carb body right before the manifold intake pipe. On the 706, the id tag is a little rectangular piece of steel held on by one of the screws that holds the top half of the carb to the bottom half. I suppose that tag could easily disappear on a 60-year-old piece of gear. Good luck!
